Before assembly

Evaluation of important points before self-installing a kitchen waste disposer

1. Connected water faucet

Before installing the garbage disposal, it is advisable to have the water tap already installed. The reverse process is not recommended, as after mounting the garbage disposal, the access will be somewhat restricted, and if another company were to perform the installation after you, they could inadvertently damage the installation you have done. This could be a potential reason for a complaint later on, which the customer will address primarily to you. (example: torn air hose of the switch, significant movement of the siphon or garbage disposal leading to leaks).

2. Well-mounted sink

Loosely fastened sink can cause vibrations and increased noise. In catering facilities, the movement of the entire sink table can cause a number of inconveniences. In a better scenario, the joints on the drainage pipe may loosen, causing leaks or even tearing out the drainage pipe and water leakage on the floor. The attachment of the table must withstand various impacts from cart, pots, etc., so make sure it is properly secured.

3. Diameter of the sink hole

It must be 9 cm. This larger hole is now a standard with newer and higher quality types of sinks. If the hole is smaller, it can be adjusted with a special tool for stainless steel sinks, which will cleanly cut the desired hole and also create the indentation necessary for embedding and properly fitting the garbage disposer. Enamel, ceramic, or sinks with too thin metal cannot be adjusted. For industrial garbage disposers, sink adjustments are made individually according to the chosen fastening components, which may also involve welding the bowl or adapter.

4. Waste Assessment

The domestic waste disposal unit is designed for a sewage pipe diameter of 40 mm and larger. Larger industrial types have an outlet of 50 mm, so the appropriate connection to another pipe is 50 mm and larger. Subsequently recommended waste heights are only indicative, as they also depend on the height of the worktop and the depth of the sink. If you need an exact measurement, you can calculate it from the obtained data of the installation site and the diagram of the specific selected model of the waste disposal unit. The height of the waste pipe below the sink should ideally be 35 - 40 cm to the center of the pipe - measured from the ground. In many cases, wastes according to old standards are slightly higher, but if it's around 52 cm, there is no need for any significant adjustments. If the waste is even higher, the water level will not only stand in the trap, but also in the lower part of the waste disposal unit chamber under the rotary plate, which is still not a problem for the unit. However, if the water level visibly stays at the bottom, which can be seen from the sink by looking through the throat and more than 5 mm above the rotary plate, when the waste disposal unit is turned on, there will be a tendency for water to splash through the protective sleeve into the sink, so it is necessary to adjust and lower the waste, which may involve cutting into the masonry.

5. Power supply.

The connection of the garbage disposal is made to the nearest outlet, preferably the one located directly below the sink. In households, it is also possible to use an extension cord. For installations, direct outlet to an electrical box with water protection is recommended. The connection should be carried out by a qualified person according to the applicable safety regulations.

6. Placement of the tire switch button

If possible, consult with the customer first, including recommending the most suitable place in the sink or countertop. The button should be as close as possible to the battery control, as the disposer is always activated and deactivated in conjunction with water.

(The above applies only if no other control method is selected: a rocking switch built into the wall before tiling or later added wirelessly with its own battery, which controls the electronics located in the cabinet under the sink by radio signal and thus gives an impetus to the garbage disposal.)
