These substances can damage the internal seals of the garbage disposal, causing leaks and subsequent damage to the electrical components of the garbage disposal. Like any machine, the shredder wears out over time. The lifespan of the shredder is ideally estimated to be 10-15 years. After that, it may still be functional, but it will probably be louder and will strain when shredding. It may also trip the thermal fuse more frequently or jam.
